(25 Feb 2025) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — Security forces in Somalia’s Puntland region say they have captured a village from ISIS-affiliated militants in the northeastern Bari region.
Puntland Security Forces (PSF) said they had taken control of Dhaadhaar, in Qandala district, after militants fled the area following sustained military pressure.
A statement from Puntland Defence Command said the operation had forced ISIS fighters to abandon the village, which the group had controlled for several years. The statement described this as a “significant territorial gain.”
“Our forces have entered Dhaadhaar and secured the area. We recovered limited ammunition, medical supplies, and dry food left behind by the fleeing militants,” the statement added. Security operations were continuing in surrounding areas.
Puntland forces also conducted sweeps in areas around Xabley, Tasjiic, Xalxal, Dul and Darayle, the statement said.
The Puntland government has intensified operations against militant groups in the region.
