(18 Mar 2025) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – A vehicle in President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s convoy has been damaged in a roadside bomb explosion in Mogadishu. Somalia’s National Security Advisor, Hussein Sheikh Ali, confirmed the president is safe.
The blast occurred near the Ceel-gaabta intersection, damaging a bulletproof vehicle in the convoy. The explosion, caused by an improvised explosive device (IED), happened shortly after the president’s convoy had passed.
Reports indicate the blast, which occurred less than a kilometre from Villa Somalia, also caused damage to nearby buildings. Videos circulating on social media show the damaged vehicle being transported. There were no reports of casualties.
In a social media statement, Mr Ali dismissed “fabricated propaganda” surrounding the incident, saying the president was unharmed and continuing his tour of military operations against al-Shabab.
“The President of the Republic is safe and remains committed to visiting frontline troops. No amount of misinformation can intimidate this government,” he said.
President Mohamud is currently visiting frontline areas where Somali forces are fighting al-Shabab.
Al-Shabab has increased attacks on government-controlled areas. The Somali government has said it will continue its campaign against the group.
