(08 June 2025) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – Security officials have launched an investigation after armed assailants shot dead a local tourism official in Mogadishu’s Dayniile district late Saturday night.
The victim, Abdalla Sheikh Ibrahim Jiisow, Head of Tourism for Dayniile District, was attacked near Macallin Ciise Mosque in the Cali Boy neighbourhood. He was critically injured at the scene and later died in hospital, according to local sources.
Witnesses said the gunmen stole the official’s mobile phone and pistol before escaping. Security forces quickly arrived and conducted searches in the area, but the suspects remain at large.
Jiisow, a well-known and active youth figure in the community, was praised for his engagement in public service. His killing has shaken residents, especially as Dayniile had seen relative stability in recent months.
Earlier this year, Internal Security Minister Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail (Fartaag) commended the district’s security improvements, noting it had not seen a single mortar fired into Mogadishu in six months.
Despite security gains, this incident highlights the ongoing threat posed by armed criminals and militants in the capital. Authorities have vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice and maintain ongoing stabilisation efforts.
