(01-06-23) MOGADISHU — The Minister of Health of the South West State, alongside local officials of Wajid District, inaugurated a newly constructed health facility on Wednesday. This marked a significant stride in the improvement of healthcare in this hard-to-reach area of the Bakool region.
The establishment of this new hospital is the result of a successful collaboration between the Southwest State Ministry of Health and Action Against Hunger (ACF), an international humanitarian organisation dedicated to saving the lives of malnourished children and providing communities with access to safe water and sustainable solutions to hunger.
One of the notable features of this new health facility is the inclusion of a Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric Care (CEmOC) centre, the first of its kind in Wajid District. The new centre is designed to drastically reduce maternal mortality among the local population, addressing a critical need in this besieged area.
The centre was built and equipped by Action Against Hunger (ACF) with support from ECHO and Sida. This facility will serve as a life-saving station, providing essential medical services to pregnant women and surgeries to those requiring emergency obstetric care. It is expected to play a crucial role in reducing maternal and infant morbidity and mortality rates in the region.
