(07-06-23) MOGADISHU — Somalia’s Prime Minister, Hamza Abdi Barre, has unveiled a committee that will be tasked with organising the country’s 63rd Independence Day celebrations. The announcement was made on Tuesday and includes a nine-member committee comprising eight cabinet ministers and the mayor and governor of Banadir Regional Administration.
The committee will operate under the leadership of Interior Minister Ahmed Moallin Fiqi. The other appointed members include Information Minister Da’ud Aweys Jama, Security Minister Mohamed Ahmed Sheikh Ali, Finance Minister Dr Elmi Mohamed Nur, Youth Minister Mohamed Mohamud Barre, Women’s Affairs Minister Khadija Mohamed Dirie, Labour and Social Affairs Minister Bihi Iman Ige, Animal Husbandry Minister Hassan Hussein Mohamed, and Mogadishu Mayor Yusuf Hussein Jimale.
The Prime Minister’s Office has confirmed the organisational setup and member roles within the committee. The 63rd Independence Day celebrations are set to take place on 26 June this year.
