(07-06-23) KISMAYO — Jubaland’s President, Ahmed Mohamed Islan, also known as Ahmed Madobe, announced the establishment of a new administration for the Gedo region, using a presidential decree signed in Kismayo.
According to the decree signed on Tuesday, Abdullahi Abdi Jama has been named the new Governor of Gedo. Additionally, four deputy governors have also been appointed: Osman Nur Haji ‘Moalimu’, who will oversee security and politics; Nasteh Abdi Salah, in charge of finance; Ibrahim Madobe Mohamed, responsible for social affairs; and Mohamed Hussein Isaq Qaadi, tasked with administration duties. Qaadi will also serve as the secretary of the regional administration.
In the decree disseminated via Jubaland media, the President expressed that these appointments stem from a recognised need to form a stable administration for the Gedo region. He added that the decision followed consultations with the Deputy President.
The outgoing Gedo administration has yet to comment on this development, which effectively relieves them of their roles. This appointment came amid efforts led by Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to alleviate political tensions between the Gedo community and the Jubaland administration based in Kismayo.
