(20-06-23) MOGADISHU — A critical new training session was inaugurated on Tuesday in Mogadishu, focused on the management and coordination of humanitarian activities in Internally Displaced Person (IDP) camps around the country. The program, initiated by the National Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), was opened by the agency’s Deputy Chairman, Dr Ahmed Abdi Adan.
The primary objective of the training is to enhance the knowledge and skills of government officials with a view to improving their ability to handle the multifaceted challenges posed by displacement crises.
The opening ceremony was graced by key figures, including Mr Magatte Guisse, the head of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Somalia, Mr James Macharia, the CCCM cluster coordinator of the UNHCR, and Ali-Ismail, the CCCM Cluster Coordinator of the International Organization for Migration (IOM). Various other officials also marked their presence at the event.
Dr Ahmed Abdi, in his address, expressed his gratitude towards the UNHCR and the IOM for their tireless efforts in assisting the displaced populations across the nation. He further urged the attendees to capitalize on the training opportunity, fostering a space for active participation, fruitful discussions, and meaningful exchange of expertise.
Highlighting the importance of understanding the challenges linked with addressing displacement issues, Dr Adan noted the need for careful analysis to develop strategic solutions. This, he emphasized, is crucial for mitigating potential national disasters that may arise from complex humanitarian situations often triggered by population displacement.
