(17-07-23) MOGADISHU – Somalia’s government has initiated a comprehensive stabilisation plan in the Middle Shabelle region, recently liberated from Al-Shabaab’s rule. The plan includes the reconstruction of community service centres, and reinstating of essential social services disrupted by the militant group.
In the Southern Shabelle Region’s Adan Yabal District, a major project to refurbish the neglected El-Siyad district well, a crucial water source, has been launched. This symbolises the government’s commitment to restoring basic amenities in these reclaimed regions.
The stabilisation plan extends beyond the Shabelle regions, with government-led efforts revamping healthcare, education, and security across areas formerly dominated by Al-Shabaab. Concurrently, preparations are in motion for the second phase of operations against Al-Shabaab, focussing on areas where the group’s influence persists.
