(19-07-23) MOGADISHU – The Somali National Army, in cooperation with the US mission, conducted a series of significant operations against the Al-Shabaab in different parts of the country on Wednesday.
In a combined air and ground offensive in Gal-Libah and El Qurac, bordering the Galgadud and Middle Shabelle regions, nearly 100 Al-Shabaab members were neutralised, including some high-ranking leaders. This operation also resulted in the destruction of a substantial operational area where the group had been scheming against local forces.
Meanwhile, in a separate action earlier this evening, the Somali National Army successfully targeted an Al-Shabaab position in El-Bashir, located on the road connecting Jame’o and the Bur-Hakaba district. This operation saw the elimination of ten members of the Al-Shabaab militia. The targeted location had been used by the group as a checkpoint to extort money from locals, further funding their disruptive activities in the Bay region.
The Somali National Army continues its relentless pursuit of remaining Al-Shabaab elements who escaped from these recent actions. These operations form part of an ongoing series, with previous operations occurring in Budbud and Weel-Maarow, resulting in the elimination of over 70 Al-Shabaab members.
The local communities positively received these actions, and have shown substantial cooperation with the National Army. The Federal Government of Somalia recognises and appreciates this support and the assistance provided by the United States.
