(22-07-23) MUGADHISHU – Dahir Mohamed Kaanti, a local government officer in Jowhar District, tragically died on Saturday due to injuries inflicted by a landmine explosion at Jowhar town’s bustling livestock market. The blast, yet to be officially recognised, also left several government soldiers injured. Preliminary reports suggest a buried landmine may be responsible, although this has yet to be officially confirmed.
The incident occurred during peak trading times, amplifying its severity. Saturdays traditionally see a hive of activity as local farmers and traders congregate to buy and sell livestock. The timing of the explosion significantly exacerbated its impact.
Following the blast, Jowhar District administration officials swiftly arrived at the scene to commence investigations. Their findings are anticipated to shed light on the explosion’s origins, and whether a buried landmine was indeed the catalyst.
