(09/08/23) MOGADISHU – The Somalia National Army (SNA) has released specifics on a recent air raid conducted in Mukayle village, near Buloburte. The operation which was carried out during this week resulted in the deaths of 25 Al-Shabaab militants, among them a high-ranking commander named Ibrahim Dheere. According to SNA, Ibrahim Dheere was responsible for the transportation and logistics coordination for the militant group’s fighters in the region.
The operation focused on an Al-Shabaab garage in the Mukayle area, where the militants were reportedly assembling explosives onto vehicles at the time of the strike. Four of these vehicles, primed to target the Somali public, were destroyed in the operation. Additionally, several other vehicles were also neutralised.
A senior SNA commander, who chose to remain anonymous, mentioned that the garage functioned as a storage and service point for militant vehicles. This included armed vehicles used in military operations the HirShabelle and Galmudug states.
The SNA characterised this operation as part of its ongoing campaign to eliminate Al-Shabaab military bases and assets, aiming to weaken its operational capabilities.
