(31-08-23) MOGADISHU — Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, the Minister of Interior, Federal and Reconciliation, made a high-profile visit to the Gorgor command of the Somali National Army in the strategically crucial coastal town of Harardhere on Thursday. The Minister praised the Army’s recent recapture of the town from Al-Shabaab control and delivered a rousing message for the continuing fight against extremism.
During the visit, Minister Fiqi was briefed on the operational capabilities of the base, including its security measures and recent accomplishments. He went on to convey his congratulations and gratitude to the troops for their outstanding work.
The Minister also touched on the importance of continued vigilance. “We must not let down our guard. The fight against Al-Shabaab is far from over, and we must remain committed to securing our nation’s future,” he added.
In January, the Somali National Army successfully recaptured Harardere, a strategic coastal town that had been under Al-Shabaab control for over a decade.
Minister Fiqi’s visit aligns with a renewed governmental focus on combatting extremism, as underscored by the President’s call to action earlier this week. High-ranking officials have been increasingly seen on the front lines, aiming to galvanise both the military and the public in a united front against Al-Shabaab. This strategic push not only aims to secure recent military gains but also to signal an integrated, high-level commitment to eradicating the terrorist threat once and for all.
