(31-08-23) MOGADISHU — The Director-General of the Ministry of Planning, Investment and Economic Development, Mohamed Shireh, received World Vision Somalia’s delegation led by Country Director, Mr. Kevin Mackey, in Mogadishu on Thursday. The two parties met to discuss collaborative approaches to sustainable economic development in alignment with both the National Development Plan and the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The dialogue focused on strengthening livelihood programmes to ensure resilience, food security, and long-term welfare of communities. Kelley Bishop, World Vision’s Director of Resource for Food Security and Livelihoods was also present to contribute to the strategic conversation.
This meeting comes at a crucial juncture, as Somalia is facing multiple challenges, including conflict and climate-induced vulnerabilities. The collaboration aims to strengthen the resilience of vulnerable communities, thus facilitating the nation’s efforts to achieve sustainable economic development.
World Vision, operational in Somalia since 1993, aims to impact the lives of 2 million children by 2025 through a multi-faceted approach. Working closely with the Somali government and other local partners, the organisation strives to create a lasting impact by addressing the root causes of vulnerability at various levels.
