(04-09-23) MOGADISHU — The Somali National Army (SNA) has announced considerable achievements in its fight against the extremist group Al-Shabaab in two separate operations within the Galgudud region.
In a decisive strike carried out on Monday, as many as 43 Al-Shabaab militants were neutralised in the Hiin-Tubaal and El-Ali Wayd areas, located in the South East of Galgudud. The Ministry of Defence confirmed that three vehicles, suspected to have been used for militant activities, were also destroyed during the offensive.
The Al-Shabaab combatants involved in this operation were notably gathered from diverse regions. They had assembled as a show of strength following previous strikes against them. The scale and coordination of these latest military actions highlight a renewed focus on counter-terrorism within the region.
Concurrently, in the western reaches of Galgudud, specifically under the jurisdiction of the Eelbur District, the SNA conducted what it termed a “wide line operation.” This resulted in the ousting of Al-Shabaab militants from multiple localities. The SNA has yet to disclose the precise details, including the number of militants eliminated in this western operation.
The Somali authorities have lauded these operations as significant victories against extremist forces, showcasing the growing capabilities of the SNA in maintaining national security. Official comments regarding the potential involvement of foreign military support in these operations remain pending.
These recent military gains mark critical advances in the nation’s ongoing battle against extremist elements. They set the stage for continued operations aimed at achieving sustained peace and security in Somalia.
