(12-09-23) MOGADISHU — The National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) released the names of seven high-ranking al-Shabaab members killed in recent military operations on Tuesday. Although photographs of the slain leaders have been obtained, they will not be published due to their graphic nature. The operations were a collaborative effort between the Somali national army, local resistance groups, and international allies, according to a NISA statement.
The Somali intelligence agency announced that it has been closely monitoring the movements of these terrorist figures. According to NISA, six of them were killed in the Awdheegle attack on Sunday, while the seventh was killed in Bulacle, near Dhusamareb on Monday.
The Individuals Identified Are:
- Major Sheikh Abdullahi – Former operational leader of al-Shabaab in the Lower Shabelle region, killed in the Awdheegle operation.
- Major Ali Timajilic – Previously the medical head of al-Shabaab’s Jaylani section in the Lower Shabelle, also killed in Awdheegle.
- Major Bashir Dheere – Led operations in the Bula-Marer area, eliminated in the Awdheegle operation.
- Major Abdiqafar – Known as ‘Teacher Nadara,’ active in al-Shabaab since 2009, killed in Awdheegle.
- Major Shaaciye Mohamed Ali – Alias ‘Kufridid,’ was a specialist in explosives, killed in Awdheegle.
- Major Sakariye Mohamed Bashir – Known by the aliases ‘Cadnan’ or ‘Sandheere,’ also killed in Awdheegle.
- Major Ahmed Ali Dahir Shuuke – A veteran al-Shabaab member tasked with community mobilisation, killed near Bulacle in the Galgaduud region.
Security analysts speculate that the targeted eliminations of these terrorist figures could considerably weaken al-Shabaab’s operational structure. However, the government urged the public to remain vigilant as the offensive against al-Shabaab gains momentum.
