(21-09-23) MOGADISHU — Senior officials of Somalia’s Federal Parliament and Upper House, including Speaker Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur Madobe and Speaker Abdi Hashi Abdullahi, arrived in Dhusamareb, the capital of Galmudug State, on Thursday. The delegation was welcomed by Galmudug’s Vice President, Ali Dahir Eid, at the airport.
The visit aimed to bolster anti-Al-Shabaab military operations, with delegates reportedly going beyond protocol to personally encourage troops engaged in fighting the extremist group.
Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, who has been based in Dhusamareb for nearly two months, also threw his support behind the military endeavours. The president’s extended stay in the area underscores its significance in the government’s broader campaign against Al-Shabaab.
The high-level visit comes amid escalating military operations against Al-Shabaab in both Galmudug and the neighbouring Hirshabelle state, with government forces making noticeable gains in recent weeks.
