(25-09-23) MOGADISHU — The SSC-Khatumo Executive Council on Monday unanimously approved the newly-appointed secretaries, marking a key moment of governance amid an ongoing conflict with Somaliland forces.
Leader of SSC-Khatumo, Abdiqadir Ahmed Aw-Ali, who had appointed the secretaries on Sept. 12, joined the oath-taking ceremony along with his deputy and other high-ranking officials.
The unanimous vote arrives just one month after SSC-Khatumo forces ousted the Somaliland army from the contested regions of Sool, Sanag and Ayn, commonly known as SCC-Khatumo. The skirmishes between the two sides had lasted for more than eight months and resulted in over 200 casualties, primarily among civilians.
Somaliland President Muse Bihi Abdi conceded the loss of their main military base, Gojacade, just outside Las Anod. In a public address the day after the base was captured, Abdi acknowledged it was the most significant setback for his forces throughout the eight-month conflict.
