(09-10-23) DHUSAMAREB — The Somali National Army (SNA) and international allies in a joint military operation, targeted Al-Shabaab militants in Shabellow, southern part of the Mudug region, on Sunday night. The operation resulted in the death of 20 militants and the destruction of a vehicles laden with warfare materials.
The Defence Ministry issued a statement confirming the operation’s success. “On Sunday night, in collaboration with the SNA and international allies, we neutralised 20 Khawarij militants in Shabellow, south of Mudug region,” the statement read. “The operation was specifically targeted at vehicles transporting an array of war materials, including weapons, explosives, food, and medicine.”
According to details provided by the Defence Ministry, the targeted vehicle was completely destroyed, and all materials onboard belonging to Al-Shabaab were incinerated.
The operation comes as Shabellow has emerged as a hotbed for militant activity, having recently come under attack from Al-Shabaab forces. The area is now largely surrounded by the SNA and local forces, who have been successful in clearing most Al-Shabaab militants from the southern region of Mudug.
