(17-10-23) MOGADISHU — Somalia’s Deputy Prime Minister, H.E. Salah Jama, presided over the second day of the Modern Governance Strategic Direction Programme held in Mogadishu. This comes a day after President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud inaugurated the event, joined by Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre for its launch.
The two-day conference is dedicated to charting a clear path for the nation’s governance in contemporary times. Its objective is to augment Somalia’s trajectory towards socio-economic and political stability. Topics dominating the second day’s agenda included private sector investment, the National Development Plan (NDP), the vision for 2060 titled ‘Centennial Vision 2060’, and strategies for post-debt relief.
In his inaugural address, President Mohamud emphasised the significance of the programme and the importance of adapting to modern governance methods. The Prime Minister echoed these sentiments, underscoring the crucial role that efficient governance plays in nation-building.
The conference saw a notable turnout, with the entire cabinet in attendance. Additionally, international experts and specialists skilled in governance enhancement and modernization were also present. These roundtable discussions hope to yield actionable insights and strategies that will guide Somalia’s governance endeavours in the years to come.
