(30-10-23) KISMAYO — Heavy fighting erupted on the outskirts of the coastal city of Kismayo in Somalia’s Lower Jubba region on Monday, as Jubbaland Dervish forces launched a direct assault on an Al-Shabaab stronghold in the nearby Bulo Haji village.
According to local sources, the confrontation escalated into hours-long face-to-face combat, causing an unspecified number of casualties on both sides.
Officials from Jubbaland, who spoke to Halqabsi News, claimed success in the operation. They said their forces targeted an Al-Shabaab gathering point and inflicted at least six casualties. The officials also disclosed that intelligence from local residents led to the preemptive strike, thwarting a planned assault by Al-Shabaab on Jubbaland and government positions.
The atmosphere in Kismayo remains charged as military activities in the area intensify. The Bulo Haji village, where the clash occurred, has frequently changed hands between Jubbaland forces and Al-Shabaab. The group has previously used this village as a launchpad for attacks primarily targeting military positions in Lower Jubba.
