(07/11/23) MOGADISHU — Upper House Speaker, Abdi Hashi Abdullahi, has issued a call to action for the Somali populace to actively engage in relief operations and lend support to those affected by the recent floods in the country.
Emphasising the urgency, Speaker Abdi Hashi underscored the necessity for governmental bodies to respond decisively and provide immediate support in the wake of these floods that have displaced many Somalis.
“In our time of crisis, we must exhibit unity, compassion, and generosity,” he declared. “It is incumbent upon us to consolidate both our economic and physical strengths to assist our compatriots who are grappling with displacement, the cold, and famine. Those among us with the means are implored to contribute to the relief initiatives and extend a hand to our fellow citizens impacted by this natural disaster.”
Furthermore, the Speaker commended the robust response from the Somali citizenry and the regional states, who have already initiated measures to mitigate the flood damage. He urged them to intensify these valuable efforts.
The plea from the Upper House Speaker coincides with a critical juncture where torrential rains have led to significant flooding across various regions, including Gedo, Lower Juba, Middle Juba, Bay, Bakol, Hiiraan, Mudug, and Galgaduud.
