(22-11-23) MOGADISHU — Ali Maqane and Ahmed Ali Gadaf, two elders previously linked with the militant group Al-Shabaab, surrendered to the Somali National Army on Wednesday. The surrender occurred amidst a heightened anti-insurgency campaign in the Galgaduud and Shabelle regions.
Ahmed Ali Gadaf, implicated in the transport of stolen livestock to Al-Shabaab strongholds in the Cowswayne area, and Ali Maqane, a respected Naqib or traditional elder known for his role in amassing animals for the group, have disassociated themselves from the militants. Maqane is particularly notable for having survived multiple assaults by forces seeking to liberate the region from Al-Shabaab’s grip.
This development is a sequel to a series of successful military operations led by the local army in and around Eeldheer village, resulting in the capture of several key Al-Shabaab operatives. This marks a significant stride for the Somali government’s ongoing efforts to destabilize and ultimately dismantle the militant network plaguing Somalia.
