(26-11-23) MOGADISHU – A young government employee, Mohamed Ahmed Yusuf, was shot dead in Mogadishu’s Dharkenley district, officials and local residents reported on Sunday. Yusuf worked for the Ministry of Women and Human Rights. The assailants believed to be armed group members, escaped following the attack.
Somali police responded to the scene near Yusuf’s residence and launched an operation there. No group has claimed responsibility for the killing, but suspicions are directed towards the Al-Shabaab group, though security officials have not confirmed this.
This killing is the latest in a series of security incidents in the capital. Just last night, a mine explosion was reported in the Hodan district, targeting a residence in the district’s Kacaan Department area. The intended target, an officer of the Somali Armed Forces, was not present at the time of the blast.
The government has stepped up security operations in Mogadishu in response to the growing insecurity. Armed forces have been deployed throughout the city to combat the rise in violence and to safeguard residents against further attacks.
