(20-12-23) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — Somali government forces, mainly drawn from the Gorgor Commando Force, have recaptured the El Dheer district in the Galgaduud region. According to reports, the forces retook the town without any resistance from Al-Shabaab on Wednesday, with the militants retreating from the town and surrounding villages ahead of the advancing forces.
Senior Gorgor Commander, Colonel Sahid Jama Farah, who led the operation, confirmed the liberation of the town from Al-Shabaab. The Commander added that a mine-clearing operation is underway to ensure the safety of the troops and locals.
The Somali National Army (SNA) Forces had captured the area earlier this year before retreating for tactical reasons, allowing the town to be recaptured by the militants. The development comes amid renewed military activities by the SNA and local forces in the central regions of Somalia following a hiatus of the military offensive against Al-Shabaab, mainly as a result of the Deyr rainy season.
