(09-03-24) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — The Somali National Army launched targeted operations against the Al-Shabaab group in the Bay region, specifically targeting areas of Beeley and Bur-haybe in the Burhakaba district, officials said Saturday.
The operations were conducted by Danab commandos, aimed at dismantling Al-Shabaab positions that have been a source of extortion and terror for locals.
A press release from the Somali government confirmed that the military actions led to the destruction of key Al-Shabaab sites. “The heroes of the Danab commandos have eliminated Al-Shabaab strongholds, alongside areas where extortion by these militants took place,” the statement detailed.
The government lauded the Danab commando force for its direct involvement in preventing Al-Shabaab’s activities, underlining the force’s role in counterterrorism efforts within the region.
The latest military actions come amid intensified clashes in the Bay and Bakool regions, stressing a collaborative effort between government forces and the Dervishes of the South West administration to counter the insurgent threat.
