(18-03-24) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — The Somali National Army and local liberation forces, launched a targeted operation against Al-Shabaab militants on the outskirts of Harardhere district in the Mudug region, the Ministry of Defence announced today. The operation, which targeted areas around Qaycad and Galcad, resulted in the neutralisation of several Al-Shabaab leaders and their followers.
The Ministry of Defence issued a statement asserting the government’s unwavering commitment to peace and security. “The Somali National Army and local forces executed a planned operation this afternoon in Qaycad, Mudug, neutralising Al-Shabaab ring leaders and militants. Our commitment to peace and security remains unyielding,” the statement read.
Officers from the local liberation forces confirmed the operation’s success, stating that the forces had ousted Al-Shabaab militants from various areas under Harardhere’s control. They also emphasized that such operations would continue until the terrorist group is completely expelled from the Mudug region.
The offensive comes as federal government troops recently withdrew from significant areas in southern Mudug, highlighting the continued efforts by Somali forces to fill the security vacuum and counter Al-Shabaab’s presence in the region.
