(20 March 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — The Women’s Committees of the Two Houses of the Somali Parliament engaged in consultations with female representatives from civil society organisations. The meeting, part of ongoing efforts to foster inclusive governance, focused on the key exchange of ideas and concerns over the review of Somalia’s provisional constitution and the efforts towards achieving a 30% women’s quota in political representation.
Members of the Women’s Committees, who play a key role in the legislative framework of the federal government, dedicated their time to understanding the perspectives and recommendations of the female representatives from civil society organisations.
The interaction sought to integrate women’s voices in the critical process of constitutional review and to ensure their representation in the political landscape aligns with the envisioned quota.
