The Puntland Highway Authority has issued a warning to all cargo vehicle operators following recent heavy downpours in the region. Due to substantial flash floods, significant water damage has been reported along the road from Sinujif to Middigar Bridge, including the area around the Barda-dawaco bridge. This stretch has seen not only water overflows but also the damage of two crucial bridges. Repair efforts are currently ongoing to address these damages and restore normal traffic flow.
As a result of the road conditions, a temporary suspension of large truck movements has been declared from 6-7 May, 2024. During this period, only smaller public transport vehicles will be permitted to use the route, and exclusively during daylight hours, to ensure safety. The Highway Authority has also advised vehicle operators to promptly report any further road damages encountered during their travels, to expedite repair and recovery operations.
