(05 Aug 2024) BOSASO (Halqabsi News) – In a major blow to terrorist networks operating in Puntland, security forces have apprehended several individuals, including foreign nationals, suspected of belonging to terrorist organisations. The operation, conducted in Boosaaso by the Puntland Maritime Police Force (PMPF) in collaboration with the Puntland Intelligence Agency (PISA), also led to the seizure of a cache of explosives and heavy weaponry.
This marks a significant development in Puntland’s fight against terrorism, as the presence of foreign fighters raises concerns about potential links to international terrorist organisations.
A statement released by PMPF Command detailed the operation, stating that “specially trained forces of the PMPF, with the assistance of PISA, conducted an operation in Boosaaso to arrest individuals belonging to terrorist networks. These individuals were found in possession of explosives and heavy weapons.”
The arrested suspects were reportedly found with a variety of heavy weaponry, including powder explosives, mines, hand grenades, mortars, and other materials. The statement did not specify the exact number of individuals arrested or the specific terrorist network they were allegedly affiliated with.
This operation is a major success for Puntland’s security forces in their ongoing efforts to combat terrorism in the region. Last Monday, security forces also dealt a major blow to illegal arms trafficking, seizing a cache of heavy weapons and military supplies in a raid on a residential compound in Bosaso.
The capture of foreign suspects highlights the importance of continued vigilance and cooperation to address the evolving threat of terrorism in Somalia.
