(14 Aug 2024) ADDIS ABABA (Halqabsi News) – Somalia, through its Bureau of Statistics (SNBS), is participating in the 5th IGAD Migration Data Technical Working Group Workshop in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The 12-15 August event aims to improve the availability and quality of migration and displacement statistics across the IGAD region, bringing together key national and regional stakeholders to validate essential documents and develop actionable plans for evidence-based policymaking in migration management.
For the four-day workshop, senior experts from IGAD member states are engaging in rigorous discussions to review and validate the Second Edition of the IGAD Regional Migration Statistics Report and the Migration Data Harmonization Guidelines. The efforts are crucial in ensuring that migration data within the region is accurate, consistent, and comparable, which is key for addressing the complex migration dynamics faced by IGAD countries.
The workshop also outlines a comprehensive action plan for the implementation of migration and displacement statistics activities by member states. The plan is designed to guide national statistical institutions and other relevant bodies in enhancing their capacity to produce and utilise high-quality migration data, thereby improving migration governance and policy coherence within the region.
