(29 Aug 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – Somali Defense Minister Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur visited General Gordan’s camp in Mogadishu on Wednesday, where UAE-backed training is underway for Somali troops. The minister expressed gratitude to the UAE government for their pivotal role in bolstering Somalia’s military capabilities.
“The UAE government has played a major role in the construction of the Somali army,” Minister Abdulkadir remarked, acknowledging their support in training various security forces, including the Military Police, who are actively engaged in the fight against Al-Shabaab.
While commending other international partners for their contributions to army development, Minister Abdulkadir encouraged the new troops to make the most of the training opportunities and serve their nation diligently.
He also provided updates on the ongoing offensive against Al-Shabaab and the progress being made in liberating the country from the extremist group’s control.
