(30 Aug 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – The headquarters of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SODMA) today hosted a meeting to assess the country’s humanitarian situation and prepare for the upcoming Humanitarian Forum (CHF).
The meeting, co-chaired by SODMA Chairman Mohamud Moallim Abdulle and UN Deputy Special Envoy George Conway, brought together representatives from SODMA, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
Key discussions focused on fundraising efforts for El Nino recovery, drought mitigation plans, and support for victims of the recent Jowhar Stock Market fire.
Data presented at the meeting revealed the fire destroyed 900 businesses, causing an estimated $1.5 million to $2 million in damages, and impacting the livelihoods of approximately 5,000 families.
