(06 Oct 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – Somali National Army (SNA) Chief, Major General Ibrahim Sheikh Muhyadin, hosted the Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) Director, Brigadier (Rtd) Paul Kahuria Njema and a delegation he was leading, at his office in Mogadishu. During the meeting, the two military officials discussed pressing regional security issues, including the ongoing terrorism threat in the region.
The SNA Chief highlighted the importance of developing and equipping the SNA for them to fully take over security responsibilities from the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS). He engaged with the EASF Director on how the organisation could provide support in these efforts.
Meanwhile, the State Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, Omar Ali Abdi, met with the EASF Director, discussing regional security issues, EASF’s role, the Regional Peace and Security Mechanism, and the African Union’s Peace and Security Architecture.
