(29 Oct 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – Somali Minister of Defence, Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur, met with the German Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa, Ambassador Heiko Nitzschke, on Monday, engaging in strategic talks about security, regional sovereignty, and international cooperation.
The meeting focused on Somali-led operations to eliminate Al-Shabaab militant groups, the transition from the African Union Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) to the African Union Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), and Germany’s support in strengthening Somalia’s security framework. Discussions also covered regional concerns about Ethiopia’s alleged encroachments on Somali territory, with both parties affirming Somalia’s commitment to protecting its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Ambassador Nitzschke, who has also met with Somalia’s President, Prime Minister, and Minister of Foreign Affairs, emphasised Germany’s commitment to supporting Somalia’s path to stability and independence.
