(10 Dec 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — The federal government has intensified its campaign to consolidate control over the Gedo region, deploying helicopters and troops to the border town of Beledhawo.
This strategic move follows the surrender of Jubbaland forces, marking a significant victory for the federal government in its bid to challenge the authority of Jubbaland President Ahmed Madobe. Senior military officials have been dispatched to oversee operations as Mogadishu seeks to strengthen its hold on the region.
The deployment to Beledhawo mirrors recent actions in the Lower Jubba region, where federal troops have taken full control of the Raskambooni area.
The escalating tensions between the federal government and Jubbaland have raised alarm over the potential for renewed conflict. The dispute, rooted in political disagreements over regional autonomy and governance, shows no signs of abating.
