(11 Dec 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — The Federal Ministry of Internal Security, in collaboration with Federal Member States’ Ministries of Internal Security and UN partners, launched the $9 million Joint Police Programme Phase II (JPP2) on Tuesday. Funded by the European Union and implemented by UNDP, UN Women, and UNTMIS, JPP2 aims to enhance police professionalism, transparency, and efficiency while ensuring citizen safety and human rights under Somalia’s New Policing Model.
The Minister of Internal Security, General Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail (Fartaag), inaugurated the initiative, which aligns with the approved 2025 action plan and budget. The event focused on implementation strategies and strengthening the Somali Police Force’s capacity to meet community security needs.
Major General Abdalla Abdalla, Deputy Commander of the Somali Police Force, and ministers from several Federal Member States attended, marking a key step in advancing Somalia’s security infrastructure under JPP2.
