Somalia’s Agriculture and Irrigation Minister, Mohamed Abdi Hayir Mareye, inspected security checkpoints on the outskirts of Mogadishu this morning. The visit comes in response to complaints lodged by vegetable traders who contend that their products are subjected to delays and unnecessary offloading, leading to frequent spoilage of perishable products.
During his visit, Minister Mareye conducted an observation of activities at the Daynile checkpoint, where several trucks have been suspended due to protests by the vegetable traders. Addressing the traders, he lauded their perseverance and selflessness in the face of transportation obstacles and poor road infrastructure.
He assured them that he would engage with the heads of the security checkpoints to discuss and address their concerns. Minister Mareye committed to expediting the security processes for trucks carrying vegetables, recognising the perishable nature of their cargo.
