(01 May 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — A delegation from the Swedish government, the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA), and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on Wednesday visited Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) offices in Mogadishu. They were received by Mohamud Moallim Abdulle, the Director of the agency, and his deputy, Dr Ahmed Abdi Adan. Their tour included the National Centre for Emergency Operations, which was significantly funded by Sweden, underscoring the collaborative efforts in disaster management infrastructure.
During their visit, the delegation reviewed operations at the Emergency Response Centre, where they were briefed on the agency’s successes, ongoing projects, and the challenges it faces by Mr. Hassan Abdulqadir, the NEOC centre’s head. Furthermore, they met with Director Abdulle and inspected the hazard warning centre, highlighting the ongoing international support and partnership in enhancing Somalia’s disaster preparedness and response capabilities. Director Abdulle thanked the Swedish government for its continued support and the construction of the NEOC centre.
