(03 Oct 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – The Somali National Army and local forces have launched a joint operation today targeting Al-Shabaab militants in Galgaduud, marking a significant victory for the government. The operation occurred on the outskirts of Eeldheer district, with a pre-planned strategy.
Military officials confirmed the capture of Ali Yabal, a strategic area located 18 kilometres from Eeldheer, where Al-Shabaab had been entrenched for some time. The operation leaders pledged to continue the offensive to liberate the eastern part of Galgaduud from the militant group.
The Ministry of Defence released a statement saying, “The Somali National Army liberated Ali Yabal, 18 km from Eeldheer, Galgaduud region, in a special operation against Al-Shabaab. Our mission to free Somalia continues with determination. We stand united in defeating terrorism and restoring peace.”
Tensions remain high in the area, with reports indicating Al-Shabaab movements around Eeldheer. The militant group has not yet responded to the government’s claims of success.
In recent weeks, Somali forces and their allies have carried out numerous operations across central Somalia, liberating several territories under the Galmudug administration.
