(10 Nov 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News)— In a decisive move to intensify the fight against Al-Shabaab, the Somali Federal Government has reappointed General Odawaa Yusuf Raage as the Commander of the Somali National Army (SNA). The decision, approved by the Council of Ministers, underscores the government’s commitment to a more aggressive counterinsurgency strategy.
General Odawaa’s reappointment signals a return to a proven leader, whose previous tenure was marked by notable successes in the battle against Al-Shabaab. His appointment comes as the government seeks to regain control over key territories the militant group holds.
The circumstances surrounding General Odawaa’s acceptance of the position remain undisclosed. However, sources suggest that he secured operational support and strategic autonomy assurances.
This strategic reshuffle within the Somali military leadership is complemented by the recent appointment of General Sahal Abdullahi Omar, also known as Khalid, as Commander of Ground Forces. This dual leadership is expected to bolster the government’s efforts to liberate areas under Al-Shabaab control and establish lasting security.
