The Puntland Defence Forces have successfully taken control of the Garooba well in the Baallade Valley following a planned operation early this morning. According to military officials, the area had served as one of the last hideouts for fleeing Islamic State in Somalia (ISIS) militants, who had been using the valley’s natural defenses for cover. The operation, carried out at dawn, secured the site without resistance as the militants abandoned their positions before troops advanced.
During the sweep, the Puntland Defence Forces discovered a limited stock of supplies left behind by the militants. Officials described the capture of Garooba well as a significant step in eliminating ISIS remnants from the region.
