(27-06-23) BOSASO — Puntland’s security forces have reported, capturing foreign ISIS operatives during a security operation on Monday in the Amamo region, part of the Balidhidin district in the mountainous Bari region.
According to a press release issued by the Puntland Police Command, one of the detained individuals has been identified as Mohamed Ibrahim Daha, a Sudanese national. However, the identity of another individual, believed to be from Syria, has yet to be disclosed. The police statement did not elaborate on the total number of ISIS leaders apprehended in this operation.
This operation marks a further significant victory for the Puntland forces after an operation earlier in January 2023 resulted in the death of Abu Albara Al Amani, the head of Daesh operations, originally from the Amhara region of Ethiopia.
The local police and security forces, using intelligence from local sources, are continuing their intensified operations against Daesh/ISIS. They aim to thwart the group’s ongoing activities, disrupt their leadership structures, and ultimately eliminate their presence in the region.
